A WEAPON IS BORN
06/28/2015
Orkney was created by Michael Cormier and Casey Robbins and donated in June of 2015. It is made of poplar wood purchased from Lowes, sanded and triple coated with Minwax PolyShades Mahoghany Satin stain.
The staff's name, Orkney, is of special significance to Casey. She was a production assisant for a Thieves Guilde chessboard production for the Hoggetowne Medieval Faire in 2009 called Dial 'M' for Mordred, a King Arthur-themed stage combat show. For the encampment stage of the production, Casey and Michael hand-crafted a table and ornate chairs for the Black Side, staining them with the same shade of Minwax Mahoghany, as well as a table and chairs stained with Minwax Pecan for the White Side. Casey associates the mahoghany tint of the stain with the driven, eccentric, sometimes downright wicked Black Siders, who she hopes Oarkney will serve well through LANCE. It is for these reasons that she created and named Orkney and its companion staff, Camelot, stained with Minwax Pecan.
